Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger
made a deadline day bid for
Everton striker Louis Saha, it
has been revealed.
The People says while the
Gunners boss has been widely
criticised for failing to bolster
his squad in the January
transfer window, People Sport
can reveal that the Frenchman
was busting a gut to capture
Everton striker Saha.
Wenger is a long-term admirer
of his fellow countryman and
admits he looked into signing
the forward as a youngster,
before he joined Fulham in 2000.
The deal to sign Saha, 31, was
said to have been close to
completion two weeks ago but
the player backed out.
He has since agreed a new
two-year deal with Everton,
with terms believed to be
preferable to those on offer at
the Emirates - where Wenger
has always been reluctant to
recommend long-term contracts
to players over 30.
